Yale OL Jonathan Mendoza commits to Louisville

Jody Demling The University of Lousiville football staff landed a very large transfer prospect. Yale offensive lineman transfer Jonathan Mendoza, who stands 6-foot-9 and weighs 310 pounds, has committed to the Cardinals during his visit to campus. He entered the transfer portal in late November and just over a week ago announced an offer from the Cardinals.

A first-team All-Ivy League performer, Mendoza helped lead a Yale offense that averaged 164. 5 yards a game rushing and finished second in the league in rushing yards. A native of Westhampton Beach, N.

Y. , Mendoza was a member of the 2019 recruiting class and served as a reserve during the 2019 season. The Ivy League didn't have a season in 2020 because of Covid-19 and then Mendoza only appeared in three games in 2021.

But he was an All-Ivy League honorable mention selection in 2022 when he helped the team lead the league in total offense and rushing. Mendoza also had offers from USF, Virginia Tech, Marshall, Mississippi State, Kentucky, Vanderbilt, Tulane, Pittsburgh, Arkansas State, Rutgers, Houston, Duke, UMass, and Wagner. He's the third commitment from the transfer portal, joining Texas Tech quarterback Tyler Shough and Harvard defensive lineman Thor Griffith.
