Michigan State commit Nick Marsh gets calls from Georgia, Sooners after Mel Tucker news

The Detroit News It didn’t take long for coaches from across the country to go after Michigan State recruits, following the news of Spartans head coach Mel Tucker being suspended on Sunday. With Tucker’s chances of remaining MSU’s head coach looking slim, coaches from national powers have gone after River Rouge four-star receiver Nick Marsh to try and lure him away from the Spartans. He committed to MSU on July 7.

Marsh said he heard from two-time defending national-champion Georgia on Sunday. Oklahoma, Wisconsin and Louisiana — no, not Brian Kelly at LSU — also called about his interest. Marsh is big, fast and talented at 6-foot-3 and 200 pounds, a reason national powers want to get a hold of him, especially now that Tucker is possibly on his way out.

“I’ve been contacted from a couple of schools: Georgia, Oklahoma, Wisconsin and Louisiana,” Marsh said on Monday afternoon in a phone call with The Detroit News. “They called yesterday. I really gave them no comment, told them I am just waiting it out.

I’m still committed to Michigan State. I’m going to wait and see who will be coaching them. “I was definitely surprised to get the call from Georgia.

The receivers coach called, Coach (Bryan) McClendon. I guess I should expect to get more calls too. ” No doubt, especially since Marsh received offers from UCLA, Miami, Oklahoma, Auburn and Oregon since the end of his junior season.

He also has offers from Michigan, Notre Dame and Penn State. Could you imagine him playing with UCLA quarterback Dante Moore, who received his first start Saturday night, throwing for 270 yards and three touchdowns in a win at San Diego State playing for the Bruins when they make their entrance to the Big Ten next season? Moore led Detroit King to Division 3 state titles in the last two years. River Rouge coach Eric Pettway said Marsh is up for grabs, even though — at the moment — he’s committed to MSU.

Marsh had multiple offers, including one from Michigan State and another from Michigan, after he showed his ability by grabbing four passes for 85 yards and a touchdown as a freshman in a 40-30 Division 3 state title game loss to DeWitt at Ford Field. “I’ve heard all about the news (on Tucker) about 3 o’clock yesterday, haven’t received any calls from Michigan State yet,” Pettway said. “I know a lot of schools reached out to (Marsh) and his mom after his de-commitment (Marsh de-committed from MSU in March 2023) because mom is very active on social media and real active in the recruiting process.

“He hasn’t signed any paperwork, so legally, he’s still actively available. In the event of something like this, you become wide-open I guess. (Pittsburgh) was really heavy in the game and so was Penn State before he committed to Michigan State (in July).

I know he just heard from Georgia and Oklahoma too since Reggie Pearson is now playing at Oklahoma. ” Pearson, a former River Rouge star cornerback, originally committed and played at Wisconsin (2018 and ’19) before transferring and moving on to Texas Tech (2021 and ’22). He now plays for No.

19 Oklahoma, getting in on five tackles in two games for the Sooners. .
