Green Bay Packers practice squad tracker: Here are the 16 players they signed
GREEN BAY − The Green Bay Packers have signing 16 players who cleared waivers after Tuesday's cutdowns to their practice squad. Here are the players joining Green Bay's practice squad: Alex McGough McGough was the USFL MVP, leading the Birmingham Stallions to a championship in 2023. He came to the Packers following the conclusion of the USFL season.
McGough was a sixth-round draft pick of the Seattle Seahawks in 2018, out of Florida International. He's spent time with the Seahawks, Jacksonville Jaguars and Houston Texans. His preseason highlight came in the third preseason game with a 52-yard throw to Jadakis Bonds, leading to a touchdown drive.
Arron Mosby Mosby is a second-year linebacker, who was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Carolina Panthers in 2022. He was elevated four times, appearing in two games, for the Panthers. He was claimed off waivers by the Packers in early August as training camp got started.
Henry Pearson Pearson is a rookie tight end/fullback who played college ball at Appalachian State. He joined the Packers this spring as an undrafted free agent. Chris Slayton Slayton was drafted in the seventh round of the 2019 draft by the New York Giants.
The Packers are the sixth team he's spent time with, originally coming to Green Bay off waivers in May 2022. He spent 2022 on the Packers practice squad. Bo Melton Melton was drafted as a seventh-round receiver by the Seattle Seahawks in 2022.
He spent most of last season on the Seahawks practice squad, until the Packers signed him to their active roster in December. Patrick Taylor The running back was signed as undrafted free agent by the Packers following the 2020 draft. He spent most of the 2020 season recovering from injury, then started the 2021 season on the practice squad.
Taylor was elevated to the gameday roster before reaching the limit and being signed to the active roster. In total, he played in 14 games for the Packers in 2022, picking up 31 yards on 10 rushes. Corey Ballentine Ballentine is a veteran corner who was drafted in the sixth round in 2019 by the New York Giants.
He has appeared in games since for the Giants, New York Jets, Detroit Lions and Packers. He spent six weeks on the Packers practice squad in 2022 before being elevated to the active roster for the final eight weeks. During his four years in the league, Ballentine has 51 tackles, two passes defended and a forced fumble.
Kenneth Odumegwu Odumegwu joined the Packers via the International Players Program this summer. A native of Nigeria, the linebacker played in his first football game ever when the Packers faced the Cincinnati Bengals in the first preseason game. IPP participants do not count against a club's practice-squad numbers.
James Empey A center out of BYU, Empey has spent time with a few clubs over the past two years. He signed with the Dallas Cowboys as an undrafted free agent in 2022, then spent the season on the Miami Dolphins practice squad. He was activated to the game day roster once with the Dolphins, but did not see action.
The Packers spent training camp cross-training several starters at center, including Josh Myers, Zach Tom and Jon Runyan. Grant DuBose DuBose was a seventh-round draft pick out of Charlotte. He started his college career at Miles College.
Doctors discovered a back issue upon arrival in Green Bay, and he was unable to be on the field for four months, before finally joining training camp the first week of August. He had three catches during the preseason. Kiondre Thomas The cornerback out of Kansas State entered the league in 2021 with the Cleveland Browns.
He signed a reserve/futures contract with the Packers after the 2021 season and spent 2022 in Green Bay. He started the season on the practice squad and was elevated to the gameday roster against the New England Patriots but did not record any stats. He played heavily in the preseason.
Innis Gaines The defensive back out of TCU took a year off from football after going undrafted in 2020 and the COVID-19 pandemic taking away tryout options. The Packers signed him to a futures contract in January 2021. He spent most of 2021 on the practice squad, receiving one gameday elevation.
Ahead of the 2022 season, he was placed on injured reserve then released. He was resigned to the Packers practice squad in October, and received two gameday elevations before being signed to the active roster. During his time in Green Bay, Gaines accumulated seven tackles.
Benny Sapp III A safety who played at Northern Iowa, Sapp joined the Packers as an undrafted free agent after the 2023 NFL draft. He had the game-sealing interception in the preseason finale against the Seattle Seahawks. Austin Allen The tight end out of Nebraska spent one week with the Packers last season on the practice squad, after being with the New York Giants, and returned for training camp this year.
With Tyler Davis out for the season with a knee injury, there was a chance for Allen to make the roster, but he played sparingly on special teams throughout the preseason. Keshawn Banks Banks is a rookie outside linebacker who was signed by the Packers as undrafted free agent. He played college ball at San Diego State.
Banks had one tackle in the preseason finale, but was in a crowded unit. Kadeem Telfort A first-year offensive lineman, Telfort joined the Packers as an undrafted free agent this spring. The 6-foot-7, 322-pound tackle played his college ball at a couple of different schools, but finished at Alabama-Birmingham.
