Utah QB Brandon Rose reveals he’s been injured

Aug. 12, 2023, 3:14 p. m.

Updated: 5:11 p. m. Utah quarterback Brandon Rose has suffered an undisclosed injury, according to the redshirt freshman’s social media.

Rose “has been released and is home now,” according to an update shared on Rose’s Instagram account. He is “expected to make a full recovery. ” Rose added: “Thank you for all the prayers.

That’s love”. The quarterback has been vying to be the Utes’ No. 2 — a role that could have meant a starting job to open the season with senior Cam Rising rehabbing from ACL surgery.

Rising, who tore his ACL at the Rose Bowl, has not yet been fully cleared for practice. Rose finished spring practices as the Utes’ No. 2 but entered fall camp in a battle with freshman Nate Johnson and junior Bryson Barnes for the job.

“The quarterback position is still in flux. Our first extensive look at live work will be on Thursday with a scrimmage, so hopefully by Monday we will have a pecking order,” Utah coach Kyle Whittingham said early last week. “There is trust in all three of those guys, it is just about how they are going to separate themselves.

That will come with the next six practices or so, and hopefully then we will have more of an order. ” Rose looked solid in Utah’s spring game but has not attempted a pass in his collegiate career. Barnes has been called upon in relief of Rising in both of Utah’s Rose Bowl appearances the last two years and started in Rising’s place in a win at Washington State last season.

“He knows the offense better than the other two right now,” Whittingham said last week. “He is more consistent and steadier. The other two guys have very bright futures and can make some spectacular plays, but it is all about taking care of the football and moving the chains.
