| Updated: 7:35 p. m. Wake appeared in 46 games and made 17 starts at BYU.

BYU tight end and fullback Masen Wake is leaving the program, he announced on Thursday. After four seasons at BYU, Wake is retiring from football just weeks before the team’s season opener on Sept. 2.

“I’ve created friendships and memories that will last a lifetime,” Wake wrote on social media. “I am humbled and grateful for everything BYU has given me and taught me over my career. ” Wake played in 46 games, making 17 starts.

This season would have been his fifth and final year. Wake finished with 32 receptions for 304 yards and four total touchdowns while in Provo. His production, however, declined last year as he only had 10 catches for 42 yards.

“I want to express my gratitude for the amazing fans,” he said. “There is nothing like playing in LES. To my family, I can’t thank you enough.

” BYU has multiple options at Wake’s positions. At tight end, Isaac Rex is going into his fifth year and is viewed as a potential NFL draft pick. Plus, there are multiple younger options emerging in the room.

That includes Ethan Erickson, Anthony Olsen and Ray Paulo, who just transferred in this May after playing in junior college at Allan Hancock. Former four-star tight end Jackson Bowers joined the team this fall. .
