4-star DB from Florida commits to Badgers
The University of Wisconsin looked to the Sunshine State once again for its future in the secondary. Xavier Lucas, who will play for American Heritage School in Florida this season, announced Friday his verbal commitment to the Badgers. Rivals currently ranks him as four-star player and No.
40 cornerback in the nation for the 2024 class, while 247Sports, On3 and ESPN all view him as a three-star recruit. Lucas’ junior highlights show a defensive back, listed at 6 foot 1 and 170 pounds, who blankets receivers at the high school level. He also has the ability to chase down ball carriers while being not afraid to tackle.
Lucas was one of 16 players slated to take official visits to UW the first weekend of June. He becomes the 21st commit in the Badgers’ 2024 class, nine of whom are evaluated as four-star recruits by Rivals. Florida natives currently on UW’s roster include wide receiver Quincy Burroughs (Jacksonville), inside linebacker Jake Chaney (Cape Coral), cornerbacks Ricardo Hallman (Miami) and Jonas Duclona (Naples) and running back Chez Mellusi (Naples).
Recent former Badgers cornerbacks from the South Florida region include Derrick Tindal, Dontye Carriere-Williams, Faion Hicks, Rachad Wildgoose, Semar Melvin and James Williams. .
