Indiana linebacker Aaron Casey named to Butkus Award preseason watch list
BLOOMINGTON — Indiana football linebacker Aaron Casey was named to the Butkus Award preseason watch list on Thursday. The award is given annually to the college football's top linebacker. Casey, who earned honorable mention All-Big Ten honors last season, had a career-high 86 tackles with 10.
5 tackles for loss and two forced fumbles. According to Pro Football Focus, he was the team's highest-rated overall defender with a 79. 7 grade and had the second-most quarterback pressures (21).
The sixth-year senior is one of two players (Noah Pierre) remaining on the roster from the team's 2018 signing class. He has 45 career appearances (13 games started) and was picked to wear the No. 44 jersey in honor of Indiana great George Taliaferro.
Former Iowa linebacker Jack Campbell won the award last season. .
