Meet Remington Moss, the Badgers' newest 2025 commit

The first play on Remington Moss’ sophomore highlights is a testament to his physical gifts, but more importantly his preparation. Hugh Brown, football coach for St. Michael the Archangel Catholic High School in Fredericksburg, Virginia, recalled an October 2022 game against Catholic High School in Virginia Beach.

Catholic lined up out of the shotgun in a spread look with two players split out to both sides of the offensive line. One sprinted from the defense’s right to its left behind the line of scrimmage. “At the snap of the ball — I think we had Remington at safety on that play — you see this blur coming through the film,” Brown said.

“That's not something that we repped. We talked about it. That wasn't his responsibility on that play, but he had studied it.

When the quarterback throws the ball — by the time the ball gets to the receiver’s hands 6, 7, 8 yards deep behind the line of scrimmage, 20 yards from where the guy threw it — Remington’s there, snatches it. The running back just falls down, and he just strides 40 yards into the end zone. ” Remington Moss UW Photo Shoot 29Jul2023 UW picked up its second commitment for its 2025 class in three-star defensive back Remington Moss, whose father was a cousin of former Badgers standout Brent Moss.

COURTESY OF REMINGTON MOSS Moss finished his sophomore campaign with 53 tackles, five interceptions — including the aforementioned pick-six — and 16 pass breakups. The defensive back earlier this month became the University of Wisconsin football program’s second verbal commitment of its 2025 class. Here are five things to know about his recruiting journey that included significant FBS interest early and how he’s currently used in the secondary.

New attitude Rivals currently evaluates the 6-foot-1 1/2, 180-pound Moss as a high three-star recruit. He revealed his 27th offer from Northwestern in late June. Rivals lists notable Power Five offers from Maryland, Michigan State, Mississippi, NC State, Notre Dame, Penn State, Pittsburgh, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia Tech and UW.

Moss announced Nov. 25 that he received an offer from UW’s old staff under interim coach Jim Leonhard, and another tweet showed he visited during the weekend of the 2022 regular-season finale against Minnesota. The new UW regime under coach Luke Fickell eventually connected with the defensive back, and Moss announced in late May that the Badgers reoffered him a scholarship.

He returned to Madison for the program’s “Bucky’s BBQ” event July 29 with his mother and father. He called it a “different type of visit” because of the energy of the staff. “They were just pumped up at 9 in the morning when we first came in, like doing the 'Jump Around' and stuff,” Moss said.

“It was early in the morning, everybody just waking up, so they’re setting the tone of the day already. ” Why Wisconsin? Moss initially told the staff he was thinking about committing but needed a month or two to ensure he made the right call. That changed after his visit.

Moss, who previously said UW, South Carolina, Virginia Tech and Maryland had been recruiting him the hardest, slept on his decision and evaluated his options. “And once I saw it was the best choice, I don't want to wait too long to have another DB in my class commit … and then, I'm not even a priority anymore,” Moss said. “And they made sure that they told me I was a priority because at the visit, there was only 12 people there.

” He publicly announced his decision in a midweek post on social media. "I chose to commit because what they're building up there is definitely something special," he said. Family affair Moss confirmed that his father was a cousin of the late running back Brent Moss, who gained 3,428 yards rushing on 4.

9 yards per carry and 34 rushing touchdowns as a Badger between 1991-94. The recruit said there “was definitely a special feeling” being on campus. “On my first visit, when I saw his name on the wall, it just kind of lit up another fire in me,” Moss said.

“I gotta get my name on some type of wall, too, no matter what school I go to at that time. “But now that they're showing me all this love, and now I made my decision, I definitely want to see if I can get my name up on the wall close to his. ” A versatile defensive back Brown said St.

Michael's defense changes week to week, varying between two-man to five-man fronts. “With him particularly, he can play corner, he can play safety, he can play strong safety,” Brown said about Moss. “We can drop him in the box if we need to.

He's big and he's long. He's extremely physical, and that's the identity of our program. ” Brown said he believes Moss could be an all-state wide receiver, but the Warriors are “extremely gifted” at that position group.

So Moss instead focuses on helping to anchor the defense. “If we press you on the line of scrimmage, good luck, because he's extremely talented, violent. Takes things very personally,” Brown said.

“And can he cover? Of course he can. But the difference here is also if you decide to run at him, that's not gonna end well either. He's one of our best tacklers.

” How he could be used at Wisconsin Moss projects to play in the defensive backfield for the Badgers, but his position is yet to be determined. “They told me straight up, … 'If anybody tells you you're stuck at corner, stuck at safety, as of right now, they're just lying to you,'" Moss said. “Cause I'm versatile, and I feel like I can play both.

” Landon Gauthier — Bay Port Landon Gauthier — Bay Port Landon Gauthier continued the Badgers' recruiting roll when he joined the class in mid-April. The three-star linebacker from Bay Port stayed c… Jay Harper — Valley (Alabama) UW coach Luke Fickell likes to have depth in his secondary, and Jay Harper could be a contributor at cornerback early in his career if he’s ab… .
