Las Vegas nets 'seven-figure loss' in Rams-Chiefs shootout
Los Angeles Rams running back Todd Gurley (30) and Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes (15) embrace after the game on Monday.
The Los Angeles Rams and Kansas City Chiefs' high-octane game generally was considered a hit with the fans.
As for Las Vegas, not so much.
With the over/under ranging between 63 and 64, the Rams and Chiefs blew past those numbers with a dizzying pace on Monday night. All told the teams combined for 14 touchdowns and 105 points overall in the Rams' 54-51 win over the Chiefs at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum.
The 105 combined points were the third-highest total ever for an NFL game, eclipsed only by the Washington Redskins' 72-41 win over the New York Giants in 1966 and the Cincinnati Bengals' 58-48 triumph over the Cleveland Browns in 2004.
The final score of Monday's game marked the first time in NFL history that both teams scored at least 50 points.
William Hill, which has 108 sportsbooks in Nevada, told ESPN that the contest was a "healthy seven-figure loss" for the book, with 69 percent of customers betting the over.
The game surpassed the over/under total with 2:14 remaining in the third quarter after Rams outside linebacker Samson Ebukam returned an interception 25 yards for a touchdown. The score gave Los Angeles a 40-30 lead.
Kansas City quarterback Patrick Mahomes threw for 478 yards and six touchdowns while Los Angeles' Jared Goff passed for 413 yards.
