Jacksonville Jaguars tight end Marcedes Lewis (89) against the New England Patriots in the AFC Championship Game at Gillette Stadium on Jan. 21.
The Jacksonville Jaguars picked up the option on tight end Marcedes Lewis and two reserve offensive linemen, the team announced on Tuesday. The Jaguars' move will keep Lewis with the team for a 13th season, making him the longest tenured player on the club. Lewis will receive $3.5 million this season, according to the Florida Times-Union. He reeled in 24 receptions for 318 yards and five touchdowns in 2017. He also had four catches for 21 yards and a score in the playoffs. The 33-year-old Lewis has 375 receptions for 4,502 yards with 33 touchdowns in 170 career games since being selected by Jacksonville with the 28th overall pick of the 2006 NFL Draft. The Jaguars also picked up the options on reserve offensive tackle Josh Wells and reserve offensive guard/center Tyler Shatley. Wells has played in 32 games since coming to Jacksonville, and made his first four NFL starts in 2017. He was the team's backup behind starters Cam Robinson and Jermey Parnell. Shatley has played in 44 games for Jacksonville in his four seasons. He made eight starts over the past two seasons, and he started four games at center in 2017. Jacksonville reportedly declined to exercise contract options on tight end Mychal Rivera and wide receiver Arrelious Benn, according to First Coast News. Both players will become free agents on March 14. Rivera missed the entire season due to a hand injury. He spent the previous four years with the Oakland Raiders, hauling in 146 passes while starting 15 of 61 games. Benn, who served as special teams captain in 2017 with the Jaguars, was placed on injured reserve in Week 11. He had one catch for 12 yards. His best season came with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2011, when he had 30 receptions and three touchdowns.
