Iowa State Cyclones head coach Matt Campbell, shown here on Dec. 30, said he is excited for the team's new coaching changes.
Iowa State made three separate changes to its coaching staff following the departure of offensive coordinator Tom Manning to the Indianapolis Colts. The Cyclones announced Friday that graduate assistant Jeff Myers will serve as the offensive line coach, Jim Hofner will be a senior offensive analyst and Joel Gordon is the new quarterbacks coach. Hofner previously was the team's passing game coordinator. In addition, Joe Houston was added as the 10th assistant, taking over the special teams coordinator position. "We are excited to get started with our new offensive staff," head coach Matt Campbell said in a press release. "I have great faith and trust in Jeff Myers, Joel Gordon and Joe Houston. Continuity and trust is important for success of a football program. "Everyone is familiar with our program goals and I've witnessed the hard work they all have put forth on a daily basis the last two years. Each have earned the respect from our players and we won't miss a beat as we head into spring practice in a couple of weeks." Manning, who is not related to former Colts quarterback Peyton Manning, left Iowa State last month to work as the tight ends coach in Indianapolis. He is credited with being the architect behind one of the most successful offenses in Iowa State history. In 2017, Manning's offense reached the 40-point plateau on five occasions, tying the school record.
