Eagles place CB Mills on injured reserve

Already depleted in their secondary, the Philadelphia Eagles placed cornerback Jalen Mills on injured reserve on Saturday. Mills has missed the last four games with a foot injury and was ruled out for Sunday's game in Dallas. Mills was injured early in the second half of Philadelphia's 24-18 win over Jacksonville in London on Oct. 28 and now his third season is over. In eight games this season, Mills had 50 tackles and 14 passes defended. Last year, Mills became a full-time starter and totaled 86 tackles, 22 passes defended and three interceptions. Mills joined fellow starting cornerback Ronald Darby and safety Rodney McLeod on injured reserve. Darby tore his ACL in Week 10 while McLeod suffered a knee injury in Week 3 and those injuries leave safety Malcolm Jenkins as the lone opening day starter in the secondary. With three starters on injured reserve, second-year cornerbacks Sidney Jones and Rasul Douglas were the starting cornerbacks while Cre'Von LeBlanc saw time as a slot defensive back. Avonte Maddox, who has seen time as a free safety and a nickel cornerback is questionable with a knee injury. To replace Mills on the roster, undrafted rookie free agent defensive tackle Bruce Hector was added to the elevated roster and is insurance since defensive tackle Tim Jernigan is questionable for Sunday with back spasms. Hector has appeared in six games and was on the practice squad for the other six contests, including the last four. He played a career-high 21 snaps in a 21-17 loss to Carolina in Week 7.
