Cleveland Browns cornerback Terrance Mitchell sustained a broken forearm and he might miss the remainder of the season, the team announced. Browns coach Hue Jackson said Mitchell had surgery on Monday, but he hopes Mitchell can return sometime this season. "I don't think it's be season-ending," Jackson said Monday. "Obviously it's going to take some time. But I think it may not be season-ending." Mitchell was injured on a third-down throw from Oakland quarterback Derek Carr to wide receiver Jordy Nelson in the first half of the Raiders' 45-42 overtime win over the Browns on Sunday. Jackson said the loss of Mitchell is significant. "That's a tough loss because I truly believe he was playing well," Jackson said. "I think he was one of the guys who created turnovers in our secondary." E.J. Gaines entered the game in place of Mitchell, who ran to the sideline and went into the medical tent before being taken to the locker room by cart. Gaines recorded his first interception of the season later in the contest. T.J. Carrie and Briean Boddy-Calhoun also saw an uptick in snaps after the 26-year-old Mitchell departed the game. Rookie cornerback Denzel Ward, who was the fourth overall pick of the 2018 NFL Draft, will also see an increase in responsibilities due to Mitchell's injury. "Once (Mitchell) went out, we had to kind of mix and match a little per se," Jackson said. "(We had to) move a guy who was playing nickel out to corner and take a guy who was playing safety and move him out to corner from time to time. "We did a lot of different things to try to slow it down. That didn't turn out the way we wanted, but at the same time, those things are going to happen." Mitchell, who was signed as a free agent in the offseason, collected 19 tackles, two forced fumbles and one interception in four games this season. The Browns (1-2-1) will look to rebound on Sunday when they host the Baltimore Ravens (3-1). Jackson said he was disappointed in some of the officiating decisions made in Sunday's game and will notify the league office of his complaints. "There's a lot of things I'm not satisfied about," he said. "But I don't want to say anything to get in trouble. I could go on and one and on." Two specific officiating calls hurt the Browns. On one, Carr appeared to fumble a ball that was recovered by the Browns, but it was ruled an incomplete pass. On another, the spot of a Browns run that would have been a first down late in the game was overturned upon review and was ruled to be short of a first down. --RB Nick Chubb played just three snaps but rushed for 105 yards and two touchdowns on three carries. Coach Hue Jackson said the team needs to get him the ball more often. "He's got to get some," Jackson said. "This guy is scoring touchdowns from a long way away." --CB E.J. Gaines did not get into Sunday's game until Terrance Mitchell was injured. Gaines then played 42 snaps, so he is likely to get more playing time with Mitchell out. --RB Carlos Hyde had 82 rushing yards on 22 carries on Sunday. He averaged 3.7 yards per rush. He has improved his average gain after averaging 2.8 yards and 2.7 yards in the Browns' first two games. --WR Rashard Higgins was the Browns' leading receiver on Sunday with four catches for 61 yards. He did not score a touchdown, however. --WR Jarvis Landry was targeted 10 times on Sunday, but had just four receptions for 34 yards. None of his catches was for more than 15 yards.
