Bills DE Lawson fined over $33K for fighting
Buffalo Bills defensive end Shaq Lawson during the Clemson Tigers Spring Game at Memorial Stadium on April 14.
Buffalo Bills defensive end Shaq Lawson was fined $33,425 following his actions in last week's game against the Jacksonville Jaguars, the league announced.
Lawson was ejected during the third quarter of Sunday's 24-21 victory for fighting with Jaguars running back Leonard Fournette, who was suspended without pay for one game. Fournette will sit out Sunday's contest versus the Indianapolis Colts.
Players began shoving each other after Jacksonville wide receiver Donte Moncrief reeled in what was initially ruled a 30-yard touchdown reception. The 6-foot-3, 267-pound Lawson went after Jaguars running back Carlos Hyde, prompting Fournette to run across the field and intervene.
Hyde was fined $13,369 for unsportsmanlike conduct.
Lawson has collected 20 tackles, two sacks and a forced fumble in nine games this season for the Bills (4-7), who visit the Miami Dolphins (5-6) at Hard Rock Stadium on Sunday.
The 24-year-old Lawson has recorded 66 tackles and eight sacks and three forced fumbles in 30 career contests since being selected by Buffalo with the 19th overall pick of the 2016 NFL Draft.
At Clemson, Lawson led the country with 25.5 tackles for losses and was a consensus first-team All-American in 2015. However, he was limited to 13 tackles and 2.0 sacks while appearing in 10 games, mostly in a reserve role, as a rookie.
