Pitt recruitment report: 4-star receiver Ric’Darious Farmer flips to Central Florida

3-3 minutes 8/4/2023
Last weekend, Pat Narduzzi’s program received a verbal commitment from another four-star prospect in the Class of 2024. But that excitement quickly vanished just a few days later when a previous four-star commit flipped to another school.
On Tuesday afternoon, four-star receiver Ric’Darious Farmer tweeted his verbal commitment to the University Central Florida (UCF). While the Melbourne, Fla., native never officially announced his decommitment from Pitt, the post itself was enough to indicate that his plans to play for the Panthers had changed.
Farmer, who measures at 6-0, 170 pounds, originally gave a verbal commitment to Pitt on Christmas Day, last winter. However, since tweeting his allegiance, the young pass catcher continued to explore other options. This summer Farmer made official visits to West Virginia, UCF and Pittsburgh. Although the Panthers were his final trip, it seems as though his hometown school made the best impression.
With Farmer’s departure, Pitt’s 2024 class — which is rated No. 27 in the country by Rivals — now has 21 total verbal commitments. Four-star talents Jahsear Whittington, Cameron Lindsey (Aliquippa) and Yasin Willis, all seem to remain dedicated to the Panthers at this time.
Farmer is now the second player this summer to flip from Pitt to Central Florida. In June, the Panthers lost three-star defensive back Chasen Johnson, another Florida native, to the Knights. Johnson originally committed to Pitt on June 11, but changed his decision on June 23, just four days after receiving an offer from UCF.
While the Knights are currently winning the battle, the Panthers still have a chance to get their revenge. In late June, four-star defensive end Sincere Edwards announced his decommitment from UCF, just a day before he made an official visit to Pitt.
Both Pitt and UCF remain in Edwards’ top five schools, as do Maryland, Penn State and South Florida. Though Edwards intends to make official visits to both Penn State and Maryland this winter, both Rivals and 247 Sports predict the 6-2, 240-pound Apopka, Fla., native will ultimately choose the Panthers.
