Evan Engram

TE, WR/H-BACK · Mississippi
A four-year starter at tight end, Engram lined up all over the formation at Ole Miss, spending most of his time in the slot as a hybrid pass-catcher. He leaves Oxford as the most productive tight end in program history and made the most of his decision to return for his senior season, leading the Rebels and setting career-bests in every receiving category. A three-star tight end recruit out of high school, Engram received only two scholarship offers from power-five programs, committing to Ole Miss over Wake Forest. He saw immediate playing time as a true freshman tight end (six starts) with 21 catches for 268 yards and a school freshman record three touchdowns. Engram started 12 games as a sophomore and earned a spot on the First Team All-SEC team with 38 receptions for 662 yards and two scores. He finished second on the team in receptions (38) as a junior in 2015, adding 464 yards and two touchdowns to earn Second Team All-SEC honors. Engram was the Rebels' featured receiving threat as a senior in 2016 (11 starts) and led the team with 65 catches for 926 yards and eight touchdowns (all career-bests), earning multiple All-American nods, First Team All-SEC honors and the Ozzie Newsome Award (nation's top tight end). With his body type and bulk, Engram looks more like a physical wide receiver than traditional tight end, but instead of being one or the other, he should be viewed as a hybrid of both. He is an above average athlete for his size with the route quickness and ballskills to be a dangerous receiving threat, displaying fluid adjustments and sticky hands to twist and snare. While a competitive blocker, Engram doesn't have the strength potential to be overwhelming in this area and is more of a one-pop type. His fit at the next level will vary depending on scheme, but to get the most out of his versatile skill-set, Engram projects best as a "big" slot receiver.

strengths

Athletic frame with firm muscle definition. Excellent release off the line of scrimmage and disguises his routes well. Sharp footwork in/out of breaks. Lower body agility to quickly change directions and make shifty moves in space. Balanced in his cuts with the body strength to burst out of the grasp of defenders. Long arms and focused ballskills to snatch and secure while blanketed by defenders. Makes tough catches look easy with flexible body control to contort his frame. Doesn't shy from collisions at the catch point, holding onto the ball after tough hits. Determined runner and strong finisher as a ballcarrier. Aggressive demeanor and enjoys blocking, fighting through the whistle. Keeps his hands inside and delivers a pop at the point of attack. Experience lining up all over the formation at various positions. Extensive experience with 41 starts in the SEC, leaving Ole Miss with the school records for catches (162), receiving yards (2,230) and touchdowns (15) by a tight end.

weaknesses

Tweener body type and lacks the growth potential to add substantial mass. Can get hung up in congestion over the middle. Wasn't asked to run a diverse route-tree in college and needs to be more detailed at the stem. Average long-speed and can be caught from behind, lacking a true fifth gear. Allows the ball to get on top of him at times, struggling to handle the fastball. Inconsistent on-the-move blocker, falling off defenders. Good initial pop as a blocker, but limited hip snap and upper body power to sustain. Missed the final game of his career due to a right hamstring injury (Nov. 2016).
