Mike Hilton
weaknessness
The one true weakness is his size. NFL offensive coordinators will certainly try and match him up against their bigger wide receivers and he could be a liability in coverage having to give up 6-inches or so to the taller wideout. But that's something that Hilton has always had to deal with and it's never going to change.
in our view
He may be on the small side but this is a defensive back that could be a huge asset to an NFL defense. First, I think he's ideal to play the slot cornerback position. He will be matched up more favorably to the smaller, slot receivers in the NFL. He has the athleticism to keep pace with most in coverage. Secondly, Hilton is a physical player that's very good playing close to the line of scrimmage. He can set the edge and be a very effective player in run support. Hilton brings leadership, toughness and a love of the game to the professional level. Hilton can play free or strong safety and the cornerback spot. He won't go high in the Draft like some of his Ole Miss teammates but I see Hilton having a good NFL future, particularly in the right defensive scheme that can utilize his scheme versatility.
strengths
Several things jump out with Mr. Hilton. First, this is an unselfish defensive back that will always put the team first. He made the move to free safety this past season to work in some talented cornerbacks behind him. Hilton has terrific leadership skills and the NFL will love his versatility. He has played every position in the Ole Miss secondary at one point or another. He's fearless and plays with a chip on his shoulder. Hilton plays bigger than his 5-foot-9 size and is always the Alpha Dog on the field. He has good speed and quickness and plays with an aggressive, reckless abandon. Hilton provides solid coverage in man and zone. He can press and play off. Hilton shows good instincts and awareness to play anywhere in the secondary but is especially good near the line of scrimmage or in the box. He's tough and plays bigger than his size. Hilton is a terrific tackler and good in support, especially in space. He's just sound and a terrific all-around defensive back.
